Into The Night: JULY 2015

Returning late in the night, the Moore Bills from Ocean City, Maryland fished the Washington Canyon for Big Eye tuna. Hooking up with 2 that evening, one tipping the scales at 207 and another at 161. Bite came around right after sunset trolling around a large fleet. One first time angler and a long time angler with a long awaited 1st big eye. Great job by both bringing these monsters to the boat in record time.
Great experience, almost takes some of thrill from catching the smaller yellows! This video expands on the guest experience and what its like to be onboard day and night in the Atlantic Ocean.

YELLOWFIN FEVER: JUNE 2014

Picture
4:30am:
Locked and loaded with the usual variety of fried chicken, random sandwiches and a cooler stocked with cans of luck, our crew woke to warm breezes and diesel in the air. With cameras loaded we blazed through the inlet on our to find the
fish. Arriving in record time our Junior angler watches eagerly as ballyhoo and spreader bars line the deck. A flurry of color makes its way to the spread filling the sky with stripes of mono flaring in the morning sun. "Fish On !" and a scurry to get our youngest angler Cole set up in the fighting chair. A quick pull knocks the dust off and puts Coles first tuna in the books. With sunshine overhead and Captain Rob nonchalantly eating a half pealed banana sporting a cross between the hat from Crocodile Dundee and

something my grandmother wore in the early 40's the banter begins. As we made our way south of the Baltimore Canyon (220 Line) Tuxedo dolphins were spotted busting the wake than an explosion of sound as each real, one by one started screaming. Belts and beads of sweat filled the deck as we tugged 6 out of 7 heavy yellowfin tuna to the boat. Angles playing leapfrog as these monsters had a mind of their own! One after the other these beauties made it into the box. With enough time to put down 3 bites of ham and cheese it was "On" again! More fish than anglers this time. Cole was set for his first big pull. Strapped in and reeling his heart out, father and friends worked on the remaining 7 fish. With determination and direction from the top deck, each made it to the box with yelps and cheer for the young man with a plan to boast on the playground! A couple quick photos and back in for some cold air and world cup action on the big screen. After 15 minuets of realizing the soccer was probably the most boring sport on earth the reels started screaming louder than any soccer hooligan! Hooked up again, this time almost a full cover-up. With the box full already, tuna filled the deck with pools of blood and anglers speckled with crimson tie-dye. We returned home with the high hook and placed some friendly wagers on the total weight. Incredible day with Captain Rob and Steve. Get your reservations in quick and prep your cooler for some Flintstone style portions, The Moore Bills is rigged and ready! www.moorebills.com - (410) 251-4203

Pilot Whales: June 2013

Picture
Pilot whales are among the largest of the oceanic dolphins, exceeded in size only by the killer whale. They and other large members of the dolphin family are also known as blackfish.
Pilot whales are primarily squid eaters, but will feed on fish, as well. They are also highly social, and studies suggest that both males and females remain in their mothers' pods, an unusual trait among mammals, also found in certain killer whale communities. Short-finned pilot whales are also one of the few mammal species where females go through menopause, and postreproductive females may contribute to the survival of younger members of their pods. Pilot whales are notorious for stranding themselves on beaches, and are among the most common cetacean stranders. Several theories have been proposed to account for this behavior. The status of both species is not understood, and they have been subject to direct and indirect catches by fisheries. Whalers in a few countries continue to hunt pilot whales.

Knocking the dust off!: May 2013

Picture
Moore Bills Friday May 31, 2013: Moore Bills took this years maiden voyage well past the canyons to do some recon for the season. Tons of life including Pilot whales and porpoise. Offshore weather was perfect compared to the last week of violent winds. 2 yellowfin tuna made there way to our lines and one keeper made a tasty but expensive diner!  Looks like the warm water is working it way towards Ocean City but for now its time to switch gears back to Sharking!

The Ride In: June 2013

Picture
Ocean City, Maryland charter boat "Moore Bills" is a 2006, 60 foot B&B Boat Works Custom Carolina Sportfisher, powered with C15 Cats. She is FAST, 35 kts cruise, as well as DRY. Fitted with state of the art electronics and a yacht finish with all of the amenities needed for an unforgettable day on the water. Experience a ride home from the Baltimore Canyon traveling along with fellow Ocean City charters. The seas were questionable in the morning and a slim number of boats charged offshore. Captain Rob Skillman maintains constant contact over the radio with fellow captains to help narrow down the hot spots. Having some fun on the way home, this "WOLFPACK" demonstrates what these big boys can do on the water. A playful and impressive demonstration of sheer power blasting through the seas at full throttle!!
